| Several companies, including Google had announced that will pledge $20 million to help the FON Technology. The companies goal is build a global Wi-fi network. All they have to do is update the firmware on their WRT54GL, WRT54Gv1-4, or WRT54GS. When one FON member comes into the range of another, they login and are given access. Non-FON Members (those who don't share their internet), will have to pay a small fee. Some of which will be given to the ISP of that wireless access point. Clearly, several legal issues exist with sharing your internet. The owner of FON hopes to use the backing of Google and come up with an agreement with ISPs. You can buy your own FON-enabled WRT54GL (already flashed with FON's firmware) for only $25. |
